Take Action Against Assault Weapons
LWV Minnesota grieves the senseless loss of life from assault weapons used to massacre the precious students and teachers in Texas on Tuesday.
Our studied and member-approved position on Firearms from 1990 clearly states our opposition to assault weapons, which have no use to the general public except to mass kill people: “A ban on the manufacture, sale and importation of assault weapons and assault weapon parts."
We also advocated for our position for common sense gun control when we participated in the March For Our Lives rally at the Minnesota Capitol after the grievous school shooting in Parkland, Texas. We launched our Pledge to Vote program at that rally (text YOUTHVOTE to 33222) to help further engage young people in voting and being active participants in our democracy.
Learn more about our Firearms positions, and most of all, continue to take action with our state Legislature to enact a ban on assault weapons. Our 2022 Council approved a new Consensus Study to update our 1990 Firearms Study. If you'd like to be involved in that study, please email us at info@lwvmn.org.
