The League of Women Voters of Minnesota has a long and proud history of strengthening democracy in our state. Formed after women won the right to vote, the League has spent more than a century helping Minnesotans understand their government, exercise their rights, and make their voices heard.

Local Leagues help strengthen democracy at the city, county, and regional levels through events, outreach, and public education.
Not every city or region in Minnesota has a local League. That is where statewide membership matters. Statewide membership ensures that anyone in Minnesota can be part of the League’s work, regardless of where they live.
By joining the League, you become part of a statewide and national movement working to protect voting rights, strengthen elections, and advocate for a healthy democracy. Members can participate in advocacy efforts, voter education, election observation, task forces, and leadership opportunities at both the state and local levels. Do I have to be a woman to join the League?
No. Membership is open to people of all genders ages 16 and older.
What does the League do during elections?

How is the Minnesota League different from local Leagues?
The League of Women Voters of Minnesota works at the statewide level on policy, elections, and advocacy, while local Leagues focus on community-based work. They operate in partnership with one another.
If I join a local League, am I also a member of the Minnesota and National Leagues?
Yes. When you join a local League of Women Voters in Minnesota, your membership automatically includes membership in the League of Women Voters of Minnesota and the League of Women Voters of the United States.
If I join the national League, am I connected to Minnesota or a local League?
No. Joining only through the national League does not automatically connect you to the League of Women Voters of Minnesota or a local League. To be involved in Minnesota or local League activities, you should join through a Minnesota local League or directly through the Minnesota League.
