LWVMN Hosts Day of Action for Redistricting Reform on LWV 100th Anniversary
The League of Women Voters of Minnesota (LWVMN) is participating in a nationwide Day of Action on February 14th at the State Capitol. February 14, 2020 marks the 100th birthday of the League of Women Voters, which was founded immediately after the passage of the 19th Amendment to ensure that all voices are represented in our government. We are calling on elected officials, community leaders, and concerned individuals around the country to join us in saying, ‘100 years laters, we continue to demand a representative government powered by the people, for the people – all the people.’
The coordinated focus of this Day of Action is the LWV’s People Powered Fair Maps™ (PPFM™) campaign. PPFM™ is a nationwide effort to empower voters and prevent gerrymandering. For a century, the League has worked to expand the right to vote and build a more perfect democracy.
LWVMN will be meeting with dozens of other local League members and members of the public from 10:30am to 11:30am in Conference Room 316 at the State Capitol to learn more about the People Powered Fair Maps™ campaign, and to hear from special guest, Jessica Jones Capparell, Policy & Legislative Affairs Senior Manager at the League of Women Voters of the United States. They will also be hand-delivering dwarf sunflower planters to each legislator in remembrance of the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment and the 100th birthday of the League of Women Voters, and to signify the importance of growing our democracy through accurate representation powered by the people.
