The U.S. Supreme Court and the Separation of Powers

  • St. Alban's Church 6716 Gleason Road Edina, MN 55439 United States (map)

The U.S. Federal Government is facing a clear constitutional crisis in terms of which branch holds power and whether branches can place checks and balances on one another. The U.S. Supreme Court has set standards for how the branches interact. U of MN Professor Timothy R. Johnson will discuss these standards and what they mean for the current crisis.

Johnson is the Horace T. Morse Distinguished Professor of Political Science and Law at the University of Minnesota. He has published 48 articles/chapters, two monographs, and six books including SCOTUS and COVID (2023), Oral Arguments and Coalition Formation on the U.S. Supreme Court (2012), A Good Quarrel (2009), and Oral Arguments and Decision Making on the U.S. Supreme Court (2004). In 2024, he was appointed to the advisory board of the Brown v. Board of Education Revisited Project.

Please RSVP at www.lwvedina.org by May 2, if you plan to attend the keynote speech. This talk is free and open to the public.  All are welcome.
