Part II – Chapter 1
National, State and Local Action
Together with our national and local Leagues and other community organizations, we encourage informed and active participation in government, register and inform voters, work to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influence public policy through education and advocacy.
All state and local Leagues receive direction, guidance and support from our national League, LWVUS. LWVUS also plays a lead role in empowering voters and defending democracy at the national level.
Our state League, LWV Minnesota (LWVMN), is governed by a state Board of Directors, elected by the members at our state Convention, held every 2 years, and by member-approved bylaws and board-approved policies. LWVMN also has a state staff, which works together with the board and also with LWVUS to help guide and support local League work and growth, and to lead voter service initiatives and advocate for policies at the state level.
Most of our work is carried out through our member-based local Leagues. There are currently 35 local Leagues across Minnesota, and more than 2,300 members.
