On January 4, 2022, the Minnesota Special Redistricting Court Panel heard oral arguments from the parties in the ongoing Wattson v. Simon redistricting litigation. The Panel heard arguments from each party about their proposed redistricting maps, as well as criticisms of other parties’ proposed maps.

LWVMN and the Wattson plaintiffs today submitted to the Special Redistricting Panel their proposed plans for new congressional and legislative districts in Minnesota.

On November 18, 2021, the Minnesota Special Redistricting Panel issued a court order adopting redistricting principles. These principles will be used by parties to the redistricting litigation and the court panel to draw new redistricting maps. If the state legislature fails to adopt new maps, the panel’s maps will be used for the 2022 elections.

The lead plaintiffs challenging the constitutionality of the current congressional and legislative districts have proposed a new plan for Minnesota’s legislative districts.

Today, the League of Women Voters of Minnesota filed a motion to join as co-plaintiffs in Wattson v. Simon, asking the Minnesota Supreme Court to appoint a special redistricting panel to prepare for the state’s upcoming redistricting process.
