Cancelled Event for LWV Roseville Area

LWV Roseville Area had been a sponsor of a September 25th civic education program entitled "The Security of the Minnesota Election System," along with other organizations.

This event would have featured current Secretary of State Steve Simon, who would haven spoken as the chief elections officer in charge of election security. This was intended to be a nonpartisan education event. However, last week, the League chose not to continue with the event.

Among other reasons, we had concerns that some individuals would use the event to campaign against a candidate for office. This is something we would not allow because LWV Minnesota does not participate in campaign events other than our candidate forums. For these reasons, we are attempting to find a substitute speaker for a similar event with LWV Woodbury Cottage Grove. The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan organization that does not support or oppose any political party or candidate for office.
