On Thursday, March 14, Rosemary Heilemann and Joyce Williams, co-founders of the Electoral College Committee, LWV Illinois, will present End the Electoral College: Elect the President by Popular Vote. Sponsored by LWV Edina, the presentation will be on Zoom.
During the League of Women Voters’ 2022 national convention, LWVUS board president Dr. Deborah Turner announced the League’s next “moonshot” goal: abolition of the Electoral College. As an organization whose mission is to empower voters and defend democracy, the LWV has long supported abolishing the Electoral College in favor of directly electing the President and Vice President of the United States. This presentation will help develop a deeper understanding of how the Electoral College impacts presidential elections. Heilemann and Williams will outline the LWV's position on ending the Electoral College, as well as why arguments supporting the Electoral College are based on myths rather than facts. There will be the opportunity to ask questions.
