Book discussion of Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Madness, Medicine and the Murder of a President, by Candice Millard. The book tells of our 20th president James Garfield’s rise from poverty to his reluctant candidacy to the American presidency, and the dramatic story of his assassination and the medical bungling that led to his death at the age of 49. The author makes a case that Garfield would have been considered one of our country's greatest presidents had he lived.
