Eastern Carver County

The League of Women Voters Eastern Carver County (LWVECC) includes members from the communities of Carver, Chanhassen, Chaska, Cologne, Norwood/Young America, Victoria and Waconia.  Membership typically fluctuates between 30-35 members annually earning us the label of “stable” league at the state office.

LWVECC strives to educate the public and increase their understanding of major public policy issues by sponsoring meetings on topics of local, state and national issues.  During election years LWVECC is very busy registering voters and conducting several candidate forums.  We are well known in our community as the consistent, reliable source for election related information. In the past few years our Voter Service team has specifically focused on registering new young voters. In each of the past two years we have registered well over 100 students at area high schools. These activities are all aimed to meet the LWV mission of encouraging informed and active participation of citizens in government.

Since 2002 LWVECC has awarded the Lucie Hartley Scholarship to graduating high school seniors in our community who exemplify League of Women Voter values. The scholarship is named for a long time member of LWVECC.  Each year the scholarship is made possible through funds earned at our sole fundraising event. We sell pop/water during Chaska’s annual River City Days festivities which not only serves to fund the scholarship but also to raise our visibility within the community.
