Dakota County

Dakota County 12.2016.jpg
First meeting of the potential new Dakota County League.

League of Women Voters (LWV), a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. Belonging to an active local LWV offers many opportunities to take part in the democratic process and strengthen our communities.

Dakota County League was formed in December of 2016. Building on the history of our predecessors, LWV Northern Dakota County and LWV Burnsville; we were thrilled to have nearly 40 people at our first meeting. We continue to work towards becoming a full-fledged League and are proud to have over 80 women and men as members.

Recent advocacy issues studied by our League include: immigration, health care, and ranked choice voting; and identifying issues and action items related to public education and voter registration. In the coming year, we will continue to seek new partnerships that will promote civic engagement across Dakota County.

Membership meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 p.m. Meetings may include speakers and/or discussion and are held at Dakota County libraries, usually Wescott or Burnhaven. Visitors and new members are always welcome! Membership is open to anyone age 16+ (both male and female) without regard to citizenship status. Students are welcome and encouraged to join us!
