About the 2010 Women's Leadership Conference
2009 Conference: Trailblazers: Charting a New Course

The LOTT Women's Leadership Conference brings together young women who are interested in expanding their leadership skills to benefit their community and professional lives.  Open to women in college and to emerging professionals, the LOTT Women's Leadership Conference will take place on April 9-10, 2010 at the University of St. Thomas Law School in downtown Minneapolis.

The conference programming will include speakers who have blazed trails in their personal and professional life.  Attendees will be invited to participate in exploring what it means to be a leader.  By connecting with women from others parts of the state, different majors, different interests, different backgrounds and experiences, the LOTT Women's Leadership Conference opens participants to connections outside of their existing networks.

This year's conference will focus on trailblazers: women leaders who have broken the glass ceiling, founded their own organizations or companies, and identified and led efforts to improve their community.

The conference will connect women from all over Minnesota to the concepts of women's leadership in public policy, nonprofit, business and academia.  The tentative schedule includes 3 main speakers, 5 workshop opportunities, and one service project that will be planned by the LOTT Fellows.  The workshops will cover a variety of topics including social media, civic energy, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, expression, work/life balance, ethical networking, and bouncing back from failure.  The service project will include both the LOTT Conference Attendees and LWV members who are interested in participating.  As part of the LOTT Fellows program, the Fellows will be responsible for organizing and executing the service project.

History

LOTT was founded in 1993 as an annual seminar.  For 14 years, the seminar has been a great opportunity for young women to form relationships, identify mentors and create opportunities for future employment and leadership opportunities.  Recognizing the need for expanded women's leadership, LWV Minnesota has expanded the LOTT program from a single annual seminar to an ongoing leadership program that supports young women over time with a consistent support network.  The program now consists of the LOTT Fellowship Program and the LOTT Women's Leadership Conference.  The expanded LOTT program will leverage existing leadership training opportunities across Minnesota in order to capitalize on the many ways new leaders can chart their paths, find their voices and achieve the goals that will lead to their self-defined vision for their future.
